
The World Tennis League (WTL) is set to launch its first-ever edition in India, with Bengaluru chosen as the host city for this prestigious international event. Scheduled from December 17th to 20th, the tournament will unfold at the SM Krishna Tennis Stadium, promising a thrilling display of competitive tennis following its previous successful runs in the UAE.
A galaxy of tennis stars has been confirmed for the inaugural Indian WTL. Spectators can eagerly anticipate seeing top male and female players such as Daniil Medvedev, Nick Kyrgios, Elena Rybakina, and Paula Badosa in action. The event will also feature fan favorites like Rohan Bopanna, Gael Monfils, and exciting young talents like Arthur Fils and Sumit Nagal. Prominent Indian players including Yuki Bhambri and Ankita Raina have also been included, further enhancing the event’s appeal.
World No. 5 Elena Rybakina expressed her excitement about her first WTL appearance in India, highlighting her eagerness to experience the country’s well-known tennis passion. The league’s format involves four teams competing in a round-robin structure. Each tie will include a men’s singles match, a women’s singles match, and two doubles matches, culminating in a final between the top two teams.
Mahesh Bhupathi, a key figure behind the WTL, highlighted the strong historical ties between India and tennis. He believes the league’s dynamic format will resonate with fans and showcase the sport’s excitement. Bhupathi also expressed his hope that the WTL will serve as an inspiration for aspiring young Indian tennis players, demonstrating the sport’s global appeal and potential.
