Upasana Kamineni Konidela, a prominent entrepreneur and the wife of South Indian film star Ram Charan, has become a vocal advocate for women’s reproductive choices, particularly regarding egg freezing. After encountering backlash for her views on the matter, Konidela took to X (formerly Twitter) to reiterate her position, stating her happiness in initiating a “healthy debate.”
She promised further insights into the societal perceptions of privilege and its impacts. Konidela also shared visual content containing crucial information to guide constructive dialogue, urging followers to engage thoughtfully. Furthermore, she appealed to employers to collaborate on initiatives aimed at increasing women’s participation in the professional sphere.
Konidela posed critical questions challenging traditional gender roles and expectations. She questioned whether it is wrong for women to prioritize love in marriage, delay childbirth until they feel ready, or focus on building their careers before starting a family. Her statements emphasize a woman’s right to self-determination in life planning.
Providing a personal account, Konidela revealed, “I married for love and companionship at 27—a choice I made on my own terms. At 29, I decided to freeze my eggs for personal and health reasons.” She has consistently promoted this option to empower other women. With her first child born at 36 and expecting twins at 39, she highlighted the successful integration of career and family life, attributing it to a stable foundation. “Marriage and career are not competing priorities — they are equally meaningful parts of a fulfilled life. But I decide the timeline! That’s not privilege; it’s my right!!!” she declared, reinforcing her advocacy for individual agency.
