A significant setback for India’s defense ambitions occurred at the Dubai Air Show 2025 when an Indian Air Force Tejas fighter jet crashed during a planned aerial demonstration. The pilot lost their life in the tragic accident, which took place around 2:10 PM local time. Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances leading to the crash, as no immediate cause was apparent. Videos widely shared online depict thick black smoke billowing from the crash location at the airbase. This incident impacts the visibility of the Tejas, a key element of India’s ‘Make in India’ defense program. The Dubai Air Show, a biennial event since 1986, is a premier global platform for the aerospace industry. Its previous edition was held in 2023. The 2025 show, taking place at Al Maktoum Airbase, is a hub of international participation, featuring over 100 air forces and a variety of advanced aircraft, highlighting the importance of global defense cooperation and technological exchange.
