Guwahati witnessed a career-defining moment for South Africa’s Senuran Muthusamy on Sunday as he smashed his maiden Test century against India. The talented all-rounder, who recently earned the ICC Player of the Month accolade, scored 109 runs off 206 balls, a knock that was instrumental in setting a strong first-innings total. Muthusamy was well-supported by wicketkeeper-batter Kyle Verreynne and the impactful Marco Jansen, who provided solid company at the crease. Standing at the packed Barsapara Stadium, Muthusamy described reaching the three-figure mark as a profoundly special experience. He emphasized his pleasure in being able to contribute valuable runs to the team’s efforts. Originating from Durban and possessing roots in South Indian Tamil heritage, Muthusamy represents a new generation of South African cricketers. His journey began in school cricket, and despite pursuing higher education in media and marketing, his cricketing prowess led him to a professional career. Muthusamy has a notable domestic record, having played for KwaZulu-Natal and the Dolphins, and has also participated in franchise T20 leagues. His international debut came in 2019 during a Test series against India, where he claimed the key wicket of Virat Kohli. After facing difficulties on his first tour of India, Muthusamy has demonstrated resilience and growth, solidifying his position as an integral part of the Proteas squad with his all-round skills.
