Chandigarh is experiencing significant traffic advisories today, November 26, due to a large-scale farmers’ rally organized by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM). Celebrating the fifth anniversary of the ‘Delhi Chalo’ movement, the event is expected to attract over 10,000 farmers to Sector 43, where the rally is permitted to take place at the Dussehra Ground. In response, the Chandigarh Police have implemented a comprehensive traffic management plan, including numerous diversions and restrictions on key city roads. A robust security presence, with over 1,000 police personnel, has been deployed around Sector 43 to ensure smooth crowd management and public safety. Contingency measures, such as check posts at junctions like Attawa Chowk and a standby reserve force, are also in place. The SKM rally is part of a nationwide campaign to press for various demands. Residents and commuters are advised to avoid specific routes that will be heavily affected throughout the day. These include the stretch from Kajheri Chowk to the Sector 42/43 Small Chowk and up to Attawa Chowk. Additionally, diversions will be in place on the road connecting the Sector 43/44 light point to the Judicial Academy light point and the Sector 42/43 Small Chowk. Travelers are encouraged to seek out alternative routes.
