Ranchi’s Birsa Munda Central Jail has seen the dismissal of its Senior Jailer, Rahul Kashyap, by the Home and Jail Department. An extensive investigation confirmed that Kashyap had secured his position by actively concealing his status as a convicted person. As a consequence of this serious breach of trust, the department has ordered his immediate termination and cessation of all salary and benefits.
The core issue leading to Kashyap’s dismissal involved his employment at the Hotwar jail in Ranchi, where he allegedly masked his criminal conviction. To address these serious allegations, the Jail Department formed a three-person inquiry panel. After a rigorous examination of the evidence, the panel found Kashyap guilty of deception and recommended his sacking.
The inquiry report detailed Kashyap’s past legal entanglements, including a criminal case registered on September 26, 2010, for offenses such as rape. A subsequent court ruling imposed a ten-year prison sentence. His incarceration included a period at Khunti Sub-Jail from April 22, 2014, to April 28, 2014, before his transfer to the Hotwar Jail in Ranchi on April 29, 2014.
