
The romantic drama ‘Gustaakh Ishq,’ featuring Vijay Varma and Fatima Sana Shaikh, opened in cinemas on November 28, aiming to charm audiences with its 1990s setting, poetic themes, and old-school romantic narrative. Helmed by Vibhu Puri, the film’s release was overshadowed by a significant box-office clash with the highly anticipated ‘Tere Ishk Mein,’ starring Dhanush and Kriti Sanon.
Initial box office collections for ‘Gustaakh Ishq’ on its first day were reported to be around Rs 50 lakh. The overall occupancy rate for the film across India stood at 8.61%, highlighting the impact of the competitive release. In contrast, ‘Tere Ishk Mein’ dominated the box office, securing a substantial Rs 16.50 crore on its opening day.
Occupancy levels for ‘Gustaakh Ishq’ showed a gradual increase throughout the day, peaking at 20.96% during the night shows. City-wise analysis reveals stronger performance in Surat (23.50% occupancy) and Chennai (21% occupancy). Mumbai recorded 10.75% occupancy, while the Delhi-NCR region saw 8%.
On a global scale, ‘Gustaakh Ishq’ accumulated approximately Rs 60 lakh in its opening day earnings. The film is supported by a distinguished creative crew, including music composer Vishal Bhardwaj, lyricist Gulzar, sound designer Resul Pookutty, and cinematographer Manush Nandan. The cast comprises Vijay Varma, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Naseeruddin Shah, and Sharib Hashmi. The film also marks a significant milestone for Manish Malhotra as he ventures into film production.
