West Singhbhum police have successfully apprehended three suspects in connection with the murder of para-teacher Mukru Degam. The victim, aged 50, was a resident of Purnachasaiba and was at the Purnapani market for his weekly shopping on November 29th when the incident took place. The area falls under the Tonto police station limits.
According to police reports, the motive for the murder was a dispute that erupted over the consumption of ‘handiya’. The arrested individuals, identified as Soma Sundi (25), Seenu Gaur (20), and Mangal Karowa (20), allegedly launched a savage attack on Degam using stones and wooden sticks, resulting in fatal injuries.
Following the assault, the accused fled the crime scene. However, a special investigation unit, constituted under the supervision of Jagannathpur Sub-Divisional Police Officer Raifal Murmu and authorized by the Superintendent of Police, was immediately deployed. Leveraging technological resources, the police were able to apprehend the suspects in Kenjra village on November 30th, just a day after the crime.
During their custodial interrogation, the three individuals have admitted their guilt and confessed to their involvement in the murder. Their statements have facilitated the recovery of incriminating evidence, including a blood-stained stone, a wooden baton, and the clothing worn by them during the fatal incident. This rapid resolution brings a measure of justice to the victim’s family and community.
