Security forces in Chhattisgarh have achieved a significant victory, neutralizing 18 Naxalites during a major encounter in the Bijapur district. The operation, launched as part of ongoing anti-Maoist efforts, took place in the forested terrain straddling the Bijapur and Dantewada districts. The intense exchange resulted in the deaths of 18 insurgents, with authorities confirming the recovery of six additional bodies on Thursday, following an initial count of 12. Critical to this success was the elimination of Modiyam Vella, a high-ranking commander within the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA). Vella was a key orchestrator of violence, linked to past attacks, including the deadly 2020 Minpa ambush, and carried a substantial reward. Along with the rebels, a large cache of weapons, including AK-47 and INSAS rifles, was recovered. The operation underscores the challenges and risks faced by security personnel. Three District Reserve Guard (DRG) members bravely lost their lives, and two others sustained injuries. This year, Chhattisgarh has witnessed considerable action against Naxalites, with over 275 rebels neutralized, showcasing the relentless pursuit of peace and security in the state, despite the inherent dangers.
