In a significant victory for law enforcement, security forces have successfully neutralized 18 Naxalites during a major encounter in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district. The operation, conducted in the remote forest areas along the Bijapur-Dantewada district boundary, resulted in a fierce exchange of gunfire. Among the eliminated insurgents was Modiyam Vella, a commander associated with the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA), who was wanted with a reward of Rs 8 lakh. Vella was reportedly involved in a previous ambush that tragically killed 17 security personnel. The operation also led to the recovery of a substantial cache of arms, including AK-47 and INSAS rifles, and ammunition. While celebrating the neutralization of so many insurgents, authorities mourned the loss of three District Reserve Guard (DRG) personnel and reported injuries to two others. This success contributes to the state’s ongoing efforts, with 275 Naxalites eliminated and 23 security personnel martyred in anti-Naxal operations this year.
