A new wave of financial fraud has emerged, leveraging the guise of ration card e-KYC updates to pilfer significant sums of money. In a recent case, victims collectively lost over Rs 3.69 lakh. The scam artists are reportedly sending out fake alerts about the necessity of updating ration card information via e-KYC. These messages often contain a link that, when accessed, either captures login details or directly asks for sensitive banking information, including OTPs. Once this data is compromised, the fraudsters execute unauthorized transactions. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the persistent threat posed by cybercriminals and the importance of verifying all communications. Residents are advised to directly contact their local ration card authorities or visit official government websites for any updates, rather than relying on SMS or email instructions. Staying informed and cautious is key to protecting your hard-earned money.
