President Donald Trump has issued a strong call for global solidarity against “radical Islamic terrorism” in response to the horrific mass shooting that took place at a Hanukkah celebration in Sydney, Australia. The attack, which resulted in 15 fatalities, has amplified concerns about the persistent threat of extremist violence worldwide.
Addressing Jewish Americans at the White House during Hanukkah commemorations, President Trump conveyed his deepest sympathies to the victims and their families, denouncing the event as a “horrific and anti-semitic terrorist attack.” His remarks underscored the imperative for international collaboration to dismantle the networks and ideologies fueling such atrocities. The perpetrators, identified as a father and son, targeted a peaceful religious assembly.
The tragic incident occurred on Sunday at the popular Bondi Beach, where members of the Jewish community had gathered for Hanukkah festivities. Sajid Akram and his son Naveed were responsible for the deadly assault. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese described the massacre as an act of “antisemitic terrorism” that has deeply impacted the nation. This shooting is the deadliest in Australia in nearly three decades, a concerning development in a country known for its rigorous gun control laws.
Authorities confirmed that police fatally shot one of the gunmen. The other assailant, his son, was injured and is currently hospitalized. While police indicated that one of the attackers had prior contact with security services, there was no intelligence suggesting a pre-meditated attack. The victims, comprising individuals from 10 to 87 years old, have left a nation in shock, with dozens more receiving medical care for their injuries.
