The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has set December 20, 2025, as the date for announcing India’s squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. The meeting of the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee will take place at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai. This proactive approach aims to give the chosen 15 players ample time to prepare for the prestigious tournament, which India is co-hosting and aims to win.
The T20 World Cup 2026 is scheduled to begin on February 7, with the final match slated for March 8. The BCCI’s decision to announce the squad well before the January 8, 2026, submission deadline highlights the focus on optimal player readiness.
Alongside the World Cup team, the selectors will also deliberate on the squad for the upcoming home series against New Zealand, comprising three ODIs and five T20 internationals. Meanwhile, the current five-match T20I series against South Africa, led by Suryakumar Yadav, concludes this Friday in Ahmedabad.
A press conference is scheduled for 1:30 PM IST on December 20, 2025, at the BCCI HQ, where captain Suryakumar Yadav and chief selector Ajit Agarkar will address the media. This event will offer insights into the selection rationale and team strategy.
India, as defending champions, will face stiff competition in Group A, which includes the USA, Namibia, the Netherlands, and Pakistan. Their opening fixture against the USA will be played in Mumbai. The tournament will be hosted across India and Sri Lanka, utilizing venues such as the Wankhede Stadium, Arun Jaitley Stadium, R Premadasa Stadium, and Narendra Modi Stadium.
