Tensions flared outside the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi as Hindu organizations, spearheaded by the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP), staged a strong protest against the alleged persecution of Hindus in Bangladesh. The demonstration was specifically called to seek justice for Dipu Chandra Das, a Hindu man recently murdered in Bangladesh’s Mymensingh region. His death is linked to accusations of blasphemy, a recurring theme in sectarian violence.
Protesters gathered near the diplomatic mission, voicing their outrage over the treatment of Hindus and accusing the Bangladeshi administration of neglecting its duty to protect minority communities. Slogans demanding justice and accountability were a dominant feature of the afternoon’s proceedings.
In a parallel development, a group named Inqilab Moncho, associated with student leader Sharif Osman Hadi, has issued a stern warning. They have pledged to initiate a movement to overthrow the current government if justice is not provided for Dipu Chandra Das. This highlights a growing dissatisfaction with the government’s handling of such incidents.
Bangladesh has officially protested the demonstrations, summoning India’s High Commissioner and describing the events as ‘unjustified.’ Dhaka’s government released a statement noting that the protest occurred close to the High Commission, causing distress to its personnel, and that no prior notification was received. However, India has reportedly assured Bangladesh of the security of its diplomatic establishments.
Protests echoing similar sentiments were also held in Hyderabad, with the VHP and other groups urging the Indian government to take decisive action. The VHP has further called for the protection of Hindus in Bangladesh and has drawn attention to related issues such as illegal immigration.
