Raipur on December 26, 2025, Indian Railways announced an ambitious plan to double the operating capacity of trains in 48 major cities across the country over the next five years, and the capital of Chhattisgarh, Raipur, has been included in this plan. Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai welcomed the decision, calling it a great gift for the millions of travelers of Chhattisgarh and a new dimension for the state’s connectivity, trade, industry, and tourism. He said the comprehensive modernization of Indian Railways under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership will directly benefit emerging states like Chhattisgarh. Raipur Junction is one of the country’s major railway hubs with millions of passengers traveling daily, and doubling capacity will bring more trains, better frequency, and less congestion. The plan will also benefit other industrial and commercial cities, boosting investment, employment, logistics, and the state economy. According to the Ministry of Railways, by 2030 additional platforms, pit lines, stabling lines, new termini in urban areas, signal upgrades, yard modernization, and multi‑tracking will increase sectional capacity. Mega coaching complexes and modern maintenance facilities will also be developed. Chief Minister Sai said developing these facilities in Raipur will relieve not only ordinary travelers but also students, patients, industrialists, and businessmen of all classes. The state government will cooperate fully with the Rail Ministry to implement the plan quickly. He expressed confidence that Chhattisgarh will become one of the best‑connected states in the coming years, strengthening the “India @2047” resolve. Notably, rail infrastructure expansion costing 41,000 crore rupees is progressing rapidly in Chhattisgarh, including track extensions, double‑tracking, fly‑overs, and bridges. The central government allocated 6,925 crore rupees in the budget for rail development in the state, accelerating project completion. With 41,000 crore rupees invested, new lines, fly‑overs, and essential facilities are expanding swiftly. Rail electrification in the state is now complete. Chief Minister Sai thanked Prime Minister Modi and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav for strengthening Chhattisgarh’s rail connectivity. He praised the unprecedented rail projects received under Modi’s leadership, which will elevate the state’s development and provide better rail services to the people. The successful coordination between the state and central governments is driving a historic expansion of the rail network, improving passenger services and boosting industrial, mineral, and economic growth. New rail projects such as Raigarh‑Jagdalpur, Dharamjaigarh‑Lohardaga, and Kharasiya‑Naya Raipur‑Permalkasa are underway, offering a new dimension to the state’s economy, industrial growth, and passenger convenience. Chief Minister Sai noted that through the historic rail budget under Modi, Chhattisgarh’s connectivity and development are taking new leaps, and he expressed gratitude to the central government for this commitment. Additionally, the Raigarh railway line’s Dalli Rajhara‑Antagarh (77 km) section is operational with passenger trains running. Expansion to Raigarh is ongoing, supplying iron ore to the Bhilai Steel Plant and providing affordable transport for villagers. A 170 km stretch of the KC rail line has 148 km completed, improving connectivity for Bastar and Dantewara districts, easing movement and freight transport. The Dongergaon‑Kavarda‑Khatghora rail line project, costing 4,021 crore rupees and spanning 295 km, will boost mineral transport, passenger amenities, and employment. The Korba‑Ambikapur new line will steer Srgaura region toward new development. A 490 km survey for the Gadhchiroli‑Bijapur‑Bachheli project received 12.25 crore rupees in approval. The double line between Sardega‑Bhalumuda will enhance rail connectivity between Odisha and Chhattisgarh.
