
August 2025 saw the mid-size and compact SUV segments continue to dominate, although the sales figures for individual manufacturers varied. Hyundai Creta secured the top spot with 15,924 units sold, although this was a 5% decrease from the 16,762 units sold in the previous year. The Creta remains a strong player within its segment and well-liked by Indian buyers.
The Tata Nexon showed a strong performance, selling 14,004 units, a 14% increase compared to the 12,280 units in the same month of the previous year. The Maruti Suzuki Brezza saw a 29% decrease in sales, from 19,190 units in August last year to 13,620 units. Maruti Suzuki Fronx had steady sales with 12,422 units sold, close to the 12,387 units sold the previous year. This makes the Fronx a dependable seller for Maruti. Mahindra Scorpio sales were down 29% to 9,840 units from 13,787 the year prior. Tata Punch saw a 32% drop in sales, selling 10,704 units as compared to the 15,643 units sold last year, which indicates increased competition.
Toyota’s hybrid models showed substantial growth, increasing sales by 39% to reach 9,100 units, compared to 6,534 the year prior, showing Toyota’s rising standing in the hybrid vehicle market. The Hyundai Venue sold 8,109 units, an 11% decline from 9,085 units, still maintaining its place in the compact SUV segment. Kia Sonet sales were at 7,741 units, representing a 23% decrease from the 10,073 units sold the year before.
The Mahindra Thar displayed the most notable rise in sales, with 6,997 units sold this August, a 64% increase from the 4,268 units sold last year, showing the Thar’s rising popularity.
