The Indian SUV market is competitive, with Mahindra SUVs holding a significant presence. However, August saw a change, with Mahindra’s sales declining and other SUVs experiencing growth. The Mahindra Scorpio recorded sales of 9,840 units in the previous month, showing a 29% decrease compared to the 13,787 units sold in August 2024. Conversely, the Tata Nexon became the leading performer, with sales reaching 14,004 units. This represents a 14% increase year-over-year and a 9% increase month-over-month, reflecting strong growth in the compact SUV segment, surpassing the Scorpio in sales. The Mahindra Scorpio Classic is priced approximately from ₹13.77 lakh to ₹17.72 lakh (ex-showroom), while the Scorpio N starts at ₹13.99 lakh. The Scorpio features a 7-seater layout, a 2.2L diesel engine, and manual transmission. It provides safety features such as dual airbags, ABS, rear parking sensors, steering-wheel-mounted controls, LED roof lighting, and manual central locking. The Tata Nexon is priced between ₹8.3 lakh and ₹17.2 lakh (ex-showroom) and offers petrol, diesel, and CNG engine options. It comes with a 5-star BNCAP safety rating, six airbags, a panoramic sunroof, and a JBL sound system. The Nexon has a ground clearance of 208 mm, a 382-liter boot space, and a 44-liter fuel tank capacity, delivering a fuel efficiency of 16.75 to 22.3 km per liter.
