MPVs are a staple in the Indian automotive market due to the significance of large families. This article presents a selection of affordable MPVs ideal for family transport, focusing on comfort and design.
Renault Triber: The Triber is a common choice for its three-row seating and budget-friendly price. It offers a blend of practicality and ease of use. It uses a 1.0-litre petrol engine that delivers 72 hp.
Price range: Rs 6.1 lakh to Rs 8.47 lakh.
Suzuki Ertiga: The Suzuki Ertiga is a popular MPV, providing a comfortable ride. It has a 1.5-litre petrol engine that produces 103 hp, adequate for highway travel with a full load. Access to the third row may be challenging since the middle-row seats only fold and do not tumble. The Suzuki XL6, though positioned as more premium, is offered in a 6-seater configuration.
Price range: Rs 8.84 lakh to Rs 13.13 lakh.
Mahindra Bolero Neo: The Bolero Neo is powered by a 1.5-litre diesel engine with 100 hp. It’s an improved version of the standard Bolero, with a more comfortable and contemporary interior. The middle row can seat three passengers comfortably, offering plenty of legroom and headroom. The third row is somewhat cramped, suitable for children or luggage.

Kia Carens: The Kia Carens is available with several engine choices: 115 hp 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol, 160 hp 1.5-litre turbo petrol, and 116 hp 1.5-litre diesel. It is one of the most well-rounded MPVs on the market, prioritizing comfort and functionality. Kia has addressed common issues found in other MPVs. The middle-row seats have a 60:40 split, folding and tumbling for improved access to the third row.
Currently, the Carens is available in a single variant at Rs 11,40,900. The Carens Clavis is also an option, priced between Rs 11,49,900 and Rs 19,39,900.

The middle-row seats are upholstered for comfort. The third row is cramped and suitable for children or luggage; these seats can be removed for greater boot space. Although the middle row splits 60:40, it lacks a recline function and a center armrest, which may not be ideal for long journeys.
