As of July 1, the Delhi government will begin seizing older vehicles that have exceeded their permissible lifespan. This action, driven by the CAQM, targets vehicles found at fuel stations and in public spaces. Owners of End of Life (EOL) vehicles will face fines, with penalties varying based on vehicle type. Petrol vehicles older than 15 years and diesel vehicles older than 10 years from their registration date will be considered EOL. The CAQM has stipulated that these vehicles will not be provided fuel. Impounded vehicles will be sent to approved scrapping facilities. If an owner seeks to move the vehicle outside Delhi, a No Objection Certificate must be acquired within a year of the vehicle’s last registration date. Five surrounding NCR districts will adopt similar measures starting November 1, including fuel restrictions by April 1, 2026. Enforcement agencies will conduct frequent sweeps to remove EOL vehicles, and daily reports will be submitted. Delhi currently has a large number of EOL vehicles, with a significant portion being two-wheelers.
