The government of Arunachal Pradesh is planning to establish the country’s first private 2G ethanol plant, using bamboo as a renewable source. This venture, announced by Minister Ojing Tasing, is part of the state’s initiative to embrace clean energy. The announcement followed the Minister’s online participation in a conference focused on ‘Arunachal Pradesh Leading in Sustainable Bio-industrial Development’. Tasing characterized the project as a pivotal moment in shaping a sustainable future for the state, emphasizing its role in India’s transition to clean energy. He noted the alignment of using bamboo with the state’s plentiful natural resources. The Minister stressed that the ethanol plant will foster both environmentally friendly industrial growth and create new economic opportunities for local communities.
Ethanol is used as an alternative fuel in vehicles. It is produced from crops like sugarcane and maize. It is mixed with petrol. The main goal is to reduce petrol consumption and pollution. It also helps to give extra income to farmers from crops like sugarcane and maize.
Ethanol is added to petrol in a fixed proportion. E20 fuel is now available. New vehicles also show E20, meaning that the fuel has 20% ethanol. This mixture burns in the engine, producing energy. Ethanol provides energy in the engine similar to petrol. Furthermore, it is natural and creates less pollution.
