Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official vehicles are selected for maximum security. Initially, the Prime Minister used a Mahindra Scorpio. Following a security detail upgrade, a BMW 7 Series became his primary mode of transport.
The BMW 760Li High Security Edition was the first high-security vehicle. This armored vehicle could withstand high-caliber attacks, including those from weapons like the AK-47. It featured underbody armor for additional protection. Run-flat tires allowed it to continue operating at speeds up to 80 km/h even if damaged. The car was powered by a 6.0-litre V12 engine, delivering around 544 BHP and 750 Nm of torque. The 760Li could go from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.2 seconds and had a top speed of 210 km/h.
The Range Rover Sentinel later became the official vehicle. Custom-made for Indian security needs, it made its debut on the 71st Independence Day. Designed to withstand assaults, including landmines, it also included run-flat tires that enabled it to continue running at speeds up to 80 km/h, even when damaged. The Sentinel has a 5.0-litre Supercharged V8 petrol engine with 380 PS. Despite its armor, the Sentinel can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 10.4 seconds and has a top speed limited to 193 km/h.
Armored Land Cruisers have also been used. The Prime Minister was seen in one during his Independence Day speech at the Red Fort in 2019. The Land Cruiser may be powered by a 4.5-litre V8 engine producing 260 HP and 650 Nm of torque.
The Mercedes-Maybach S650 Guard, which debuted in 2021, is certified to VR10 ballistic standards. This vehicle can withstand armor-piercing bullets and TNT attacks. It features fortified seals in the fuel tank and offers options like satellite phones and emergency oxygen canisters. This armored sedan uses a 6.0-litre twin-turbo V12 engine, producing 630 BHP.
