Following the nationwide implementation of E20 petrol, the Indian government is exploring the use of blended diesel. The plan involves using isobutanol, a product of ethanol, as a blending agent instead of directly mixing ethanol with the diesel fuel. The earlier attempts to blend ethanol with diesel did not prove successful.
The program is currently in its trial phase. Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, highlighted the experimental nature of this initiative, implying the possible future use of isobutanol in diesel fuel.
