The Indian government is expanding its biofuel program, looking to replicate the success of E20 petrol with a blended diesel variant. E20 petrol, which contains 20% ethanol, has been implemented across the nation, ahead of schedule. The new approach will utilize isobutanol, produced from ethanol, as the blending agent, due to the failure of previous attempts to directly mix ethanol with diesel.
Reports indicate that a previous attempt to blend 10% ethanol with diesel was unsuccessful. The shift to isobutanol signifies a strategic move towards sustainable fuel alternatives. The timeline for this initiative remains dependent on the results of the ongoing experiments, as stated by Minister Gadkari.
