North Gujarat has quickly established itself as a major automobile manufacturing hub in India, largely thanks to Suzuki Motor Gujarat. The Mehsana factory of Suzuki Motor Gujarat has an annual production capacity of approximately 750,000 cars. The plant significantly contributes to both domestic and international markets. Suzuki is set to invest around ₹3,200 crore to establish a fourth production line dedicated to electric vehicles. This investment aligns with its broader strategy, which already includes a ₹7,300 crore battery plant and a ₹3,100 crore EV manufacturing unit.
Between 2012 and 2015, Gujarat attracted a number of major automobile companies. The partnership between Suzuki and the state government in 2014 to build a mega plant was a major turning point. The company has since invested heavily, creating thousands of jobs and accelerating the growth of the auto component ecosystem. Suzuki Motor’s Gujarat plant is now recognized as one of the largest automotive production centers in the nation. The state’s strong port infrastructure has made it a vital export hub. Exports from the region in 2024 reached approximately ₹3,459 crore, destined for countries like South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Japan, the UAE, and Chile. The state government is preparing to showcase these achievements at the upcoming Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conferences (VGRC), aiming to attract global investment in the Gujarat automobile and related sectors. Suzuki’s expanded investment and focus on EV production are expected to mark a new phase for the automotive sector in both Gujarat and India.
