Jaguar Land Rover’s global production facilities have been shut down for three weeks following a cyberattack that began on September 1. The incident has caused widespread disruption across the brand, from production to retail, and is estimated to be costing the company a significant amount of money per day.
The initial impact of the attack was on dealerships. JLR acknowledged the issue on September 2 and shut down systems to contain the problem.
The hacker group Scattered Lapsus$ has claimed responsibility for the JLR attack, after previously targeting Marks and Spencer. JLR has confirmed that customer data was compromised. Law enforcement and cybersecurity specialists are working to restore operations. Production will remain paused until at least September 24, disrupting the supply chain and putting suppliers at risk. The Aston Martin CEO expressed concerns about potential layoffs due to the widespread impacts of the cyberattack on the automotive industry.
