The increasing demand for full-size SUVs is driven by the need for greater space and passenger capacity. Currently, the Mahindra XUV 7OO and Tata Safari are key players in the market, appealing to a wide range of customers. However, the landscape is about to change as Honda, Renault, and Nissan are preparing to launch new SUVs within the next 12-15 months, which could disrupt the existing market dynamics and pose a strong challenge to XUV 7OO and Safari.
Honda’s upcoming 7-seater SUV is built on the new PF2 platform, and will be compatible with petrol, strong-hybrid, and electric powertrains. It is expected to be a three-row SUV, with reports suggesting it may be an extended version of the Elevate, thus providing a 7-seater configuration and larger dimensions.
Production will be localized at the company’s Tapukara plant in Rajasthan. Engine options will possibly include a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine, also used in the Honda City and Honda Elevate. High-end models might utilize Atkinson strong hybrid technology.
Renault is expected to introduce a new 7-seater SUV for the Indian market by the end of 2026. This model is likely based on the Duster SUV, but will have a distinct design identity. It is expected to be larger, offering increased cabin space.
Nissan India’s MD, Saurabh Vatsa, confirmed the launch of a D-segment premium SUV in early 2027. This will be a seven-seater SUV with three rows of seating and will be built on a new mid-size SUV platform. It will have features such as a 360-degree camera, Level 2 ADAS, ventilated seats, a large touchscreen infotainment system, a digital driver display, and a dual-pane sunroof. In addition to a petrol engine and hybrid technology, the top variant may come equipped with a 4×4 driving system.
