Nissan is aggressively expanding its footprint in the Indian automotive landscape. With the Magnite as its current sole offering, the company intends to broaden its portfolio with two new SUVs. One of these upcoming models is a C-segment SUV that will be based on the third-generation Renault Duster. The Japanese car manufacturer has initiated testing of its new mid-size SUV in India, sparking anticipation among consumers. This new Nissan SUV will be up against formidable competitors such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, Honda Elevate, and the forthcoming Tata Sierra and Maruti’s new mid-size SUV. The anticipated launch timeframe is the middle of 2026. The design of the new Nissan SUV is expected to incorporate a signature badge on the grille, a bumper with distinctive C-shaped elements, and a prominent bonnet. It will also feature plastic wheel arches, 5-spoke alloy wheels, a shark fin antenna, a spoiler, unique taillight designs, and a flat tailgate. The interior specifications are currently unavailable, but it is speculated that the cabin layout and features will resemble those of the new Renault Duster. The new Nissan SUV is anticipated to offer a variety of powertrain options, including petrol, CNG, and hybrid versions. Entry-level trims might feature a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine, while higher-spec models could be equipped with either a 1.0-liter or a 1.3-liter turbocharged petrol engine. According to available reports, the Renault Duster hybrid is scheduled to debut within 12 months of its ICE variant, with an expected arrival on the roads in early 2026. Nissan’s hybrid powertrain C-segment SUV will follow later. The company is also assessing the possibility of a CNG variant for its C-segment SUV, and it might opt for a third-party or retrofitted CNG solution similar to the approach seen in the Nissan Kwid and Kiger models.
