Tata Motors is gearing up for a major push in the Indian automotive market, aiming to challenge Maruti Suzuki’s dominance. The company is planning to launch seven new models, encompassing a range of powertrains including petrol, diesel, electric, and hybrid, all within a price bracket of ₹10 lakh to ₹20 lakh.
Tata’s strategy includes a strong focus on the competitive sub-4 meter SUV segment, with the introduction of the Punch facelift, the all-new Scarlet, and the next-generation Nexon. These vehicles are designed to compete directly with Maruti Suzuki’s Fronx and Brezza, two of the segment’s top-selling SUVs.
**Tata Punch Facelift: Detailed Overview**
The 2025 Tata Punch facelift will adopt styling cues from the Punch EV, incorporating features such as slim headlamps, redesigned bumpers, an updated LED DRL pattern, and new alloy wheels. Interior enhancements will likely include a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a fully digital instrument cluster, and a two-spoke steering wheel reminiscent of the Altroz. The facelift is expected to retain the existing engine options, the 86bhp 1.2L petrol and the 73.4bhp CNG engines.
**Tata Scarlet: Design and Powertrain Possibilities**
The upcoming Tata Scarlet, a compact SUV, will feature a boxy design inspired by the Sierra. Built on a monocoque platform, it will offer options for petrol, diesel, and electric powertrains. While specific engine details remain undisclosed, potential options include the Nexon’s 120bhp 1.2L turbo petrol, the Curvv’s 125bhp 1.2L TGDi petrol, or a new 1.5L petrol engine. An electric variant is also a possibility.
**Next-Gen Tata Nexon: Future Developments**
Tata will also launch the next-generation Nexon model, expected around 2027. This new Nexon will be built on an upgraded version of the existing X1 architecture and is expected to feature significant design and feature upgrades. While the petrol and CNG engine options are expected to continue, the diesel engine may be phased out due to the upcoming BS7 emission regulations.
