Tata Motors’ Nexon compact SUV, which debuted on September 21, 2017, has celebrated eight years in the market. The Nexon stands out as the sole vehicle offering petrol, diesel, electric, and CNG powertrain options. The company has sold a total of 8,87,607 units of the Nexon. The sales figures are approaching 900,000 units by the end of September, making it the first Tata SUV to achieve this milestone.
The Nexon was a top-selling SUV in India for several years. However, it was surpassed by the Punch in the fiscal years 2022, 2023, and 2024. The demand is increasing again in the current fiscal year, which is expected to accelerate further because of price reductions due to GST. The stylish compact SUV has been key in the revival of Tata Motors. The domestic market saw a total sales of 8,87,607 units until the end of August 2025. It is just 12,393 units away from reaching the 900,000 mark.
The Nexon achieved 200,000 sales in June 2021, 45 months after its launch. The next 200,000 units were sold in 16 months. The 400,000 mark was crossed in October 2022. From 400,000 to 500,000, the journey took six months. Reaching 600,000 took seven months. The 700,000 sales were achieved in July 2024, with 800,000 units sold in February 2025. The 900,000 sales record is expected in September 2025, eight years and one month after its launch.
