In a significant move to bolster its presence in India’s electric vehicle sector, Tesla is set to unveil its second retail centre in the country. The new Tesla Experience Centre will open its doors on August 11 at the WorldMark 3 campus in Aerocity, Delhi, serving customers in the National Capital Region, an important area for electric vehicle adoption in India.
This new centre follows the inaugural showroom opening in Mumbai on July 15, located at the Maker Maxity Mall. The Mumbai launch included an appearance by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who welcomed Tesla and encouraged investment in R&D and manufacturing within the state.
The Aerocity centre is nearing completion. Its monthly rent is estimated to be approximately Rs 25 lakh. Images of the new outlet have already surfaced on social media platforms, reflecting the brand’s upscale image. Tesla currently offers only one model in India: the Model Y, with a starting price of Rs 59.89 lakh (ex-showroom).
The Model Y has two variants:
* Standard rear-wheel drive with a 60 kWh battery and a WLTP-certified range of 500 km.
* Long-range rear-wheel drive with a 75 kWh battery, capable of a range up to 622 km.
Tesla is prioritizing deliveries for customers in major cities such as Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, and Gurugram, where vehicles will be delivered directly to homes using flat-bed trucks.
Additionally, Tesla has updated its website to enable vehicle registration across all states and union territories, expanding its reach beyond the initial launch cities.
The full self-driving (FSD) feature is currently listed as an optional feature with a price of Rs 6 lakh on the website. It will be rolled out in India at a later time.
The Model Y launch also marked the launch of Tesla’s India website, which demonstrates the company’s commitment to growing its operations in India, despite facing hurdles related to EV policy and infrastructure.
