A SpiceJet flyer endured an uncomfortable situation on a Mumbai to Bengaluru flight, spending the entire journey trapped inside the aircraft’s lavatory. While the airline has apologized and reportedly offered compensation, the unusual episode has triggered widespread interest and humor.
The passenger was eventually freed after the aircraft landed in Bengaluru, with ground personnel and engineers called in to open the faulty door. This event unfolded on a Monday night flight. The flight was delayed by two hours taking off at 2:10 AM instead of its originally scheduled time of 10:55 PM.
The incident began shortly after the flight took off when a passenger seated in seat 14D of the SpiceJet flight entered the restroom. A malfunctioning door lock prevented the passenger from exiting, leading to the in-flight predicament. Despite attempts by the passenger and crew, the door remained jammed.
To assist the distressed passenger, the crew devised a plan: they slipped a handwritten note under the door, requesting that the individual remain seated on the toilet until arrival in Bengaluru. Photos of the note have circulated widely, sparking numerous online reactions, with many commenting on the quality of the handwriting. The flight landed in Bengaluru at around 3:45 AM, after which airport engineers were able to open the door.
The airline has expressed its regrets and offered an apology to the passenger.
