The partnership between Bajaj and Triumph has resulted in the creation of a 400cc motorcycle series, including the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400X, aiming to introduce riders to Triumph’s legacy.
With new GST reforms, these bikes now fall under a 40% tax slab, leading to price increases. Bajaj has stated its intention to realign its offerings with more models under 350cc to counteract these higher prices.
It is anticipated that Bajaj may launch a new 350cc bike lineup, potentially within the year, and the current 400cc models could be adapted. The following sections provide a closer look at the changes that may occur for the new 350cc bikes.
New Bajaj Triumph 350cc Bikes
Bajaj manages KTM and Triumph, and Triumph is the most impacted by the higher 40% GST slab. That is because Bajaj and KTM also have lower-displacement bikes. This could encourage Bajaj and Triumph to create a new 350cc portfolio and then replace the 400cc with this new engine in India.
According to media sources, Triumph may continue to produce high-displacement models for export, while the 350cc portfolio will be sold in India.
The Bajaj Triumph 350cc engine is likely to be based on the same 399cc engine found in the Speed 400 and other bikes. The company may shorten the stroke to lower the displacement to around 350cc. Bajaj is familiar with modifying mechanical hardware to produce different versions, as seen with the Speed T4.
