The Indian cafe racer scene will soon see the arrival of the Triumph Thruxton 400 on August 6th. This new model joins the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X as part of Triumph’s 400cc offerings in India. The existing models have established a foothold in the entry-level premium motorcycle market, and the Thruxton 400 is poised to strengthen Triumph’s presence.
The motorcycle is based on the 400cc platform developed jointly with Bajaj Auto. Upon its release, it is expected to compete with motorcycles like the Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450.
Engine Capabilities
The Thruxton 400 will use the same 398cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine found in the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400X. In those models, the engine produces 39.5 bhp and 37.5 Nm of torque, matched with a 6-speed gearbox and a slip-and-assist clutch. There may be subtle adjustments to the engine for the Thruxton to refine its sporty character, enhancing throttle response and aggressive performance.
Price Expectations
The Speed 400 is currently priced at ₹2.40 lakh and the Scrambler 400X at ₹2.65 lakh (ex-showroom). Considering the premium design elements and positioning of the Thruxton 400, the estimated price could be around ₹2.80 lakh (ex-showroom). This would position it as the priciest motorcycle in the 400cc lineup offered by Triumph in the Indian market.
Design Highlights
Images of the Triumph Thruxton 400 have already surfaced on social media, presenting a design that is retro, stylish, and embodies British design cues. The front fairing, reminiscent of fighter jets, is a striking visual element. It is anticipated to have a round LED headlight, giving the bike a strong visual presence. The design incorporates low-mounted clip-on handlebars and slightly rear-set foot pegs, contributing to a sporty riding posture essential for a cafe racer.
