TVS is set to expand its electric scooter range with the introduction of a new EV, designed to sit below the iQube in its current lineup. The scooter, potentially named the Orbiter, will be officially launched today, August 28th, as confirmed by TVS’s own announcements. This new model has been developed from the ground up, representing a fresh approach to design, targeting a more budget-conscious consumer.
Specifics regarding the scooter’s features and technical details have been kept confidential by TVS. However, indications suggest that TVS is developing a straightforward, minimalist electric scooter, driven by a hub-mounted motor, to help maintain cost-effectiveness.
The Orbiter is intended to serve as the starting point for TVS’s EV offerings. Alongside Orbiter, the company has also secured trademarks for alternative names such as EV One and O.
Given the iQube’s existing range of versions, it is anticipated that the Orbiter will also be available in several configurations. The iQube currently ranges in price from ₹1 lakh for the base 2.2 kWh model to nearly ₹2 lakh for the top-end 5.1 kWh version. Positioned below this, the Orbiter is expected to incorporate a smaller battery, simpler components, and fewer features – making it a more affordable option.
With the adoption of electric vehicles gaining traction, supported by government incentives, manufacturers like TVS are broadening their portfolios with models at various price points to draw a wider customer base.
