TVS has once again taken the lead in electric two-wheeler sales for September. Bajaj, with its Chetak scooter, followed in second place. A notable shift is Ather Energy’s overtaking of Ola Electric in sales figures. Vahan’s retail sales data shows that Ather sold approximately 16,558 units last month, while Ola’s sales decreased to 12,223 units. TVS recorded 21,052 units, and Bajaj Chetak registered 17,972 units.
Ather has been close to the top three and has now shown significant growth. The company’s sales are increasingly coming from outside of South India. Ather is the market leader in all southern states, with strong markets in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha. The company’s focus on Middle India has expanded its outlets from 49 in March 2024 to 109.
Ola Electric’s sales have been consistently declining. The Rizta electric family scooter accounts for about 70% of Ather’s overall sales. The company is aiming to overtake Bajaj Auto for the second position, with a current difference of around 1,500 units between the brands. Ola Electric’s sales have been down since the beginning of the year; initially, the brand cited registration difficulties, but the drop continues.
Hero MotoCorp’s Vida saw a significant jump in September, selling 11,856 units and closing in on Ola Electric. Vida’s recent Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) program has boosted sales by lowering the initial cost of e-scooters.
