The Kia Syros EV, an upcoming all-electric SUV, has been observed undergoing testing in India for the first time. The vehicle was seen at a charging station in Kochi, with its exterior largely hidden to conceal the design. Despite the camouflage, several design elements were discernible, including the window line, roof rails, pillars, shark fin antenna, and body-colored ORVMs, all of which appear consistent with the ICE-powered model. The front and rear lighting systems also appeared unchanged.
Modifications to the EV’s design are expected, potentially involving changes to the grille and the integration of a charging port on the front fascia. Furthermore, the exterior may include EV-specific badging and green brake calipers, similar to what was seen in previous test vehicles. It is expected that the dimensions of the compact electric SUV will remain consistent.
Interior changes could include new trims and upholstery, as well as an instrument cluster equipped with EV-focused software. The feature set is expected to align with its internal combustion engine counterpart, allowing it to offer a wide range of features while providing ample space, making it a competitive offering in its segment.
While the specifics of the Syros EV’s specifications remain undisclosed, reports suggest the electric compact SUV might share its powertrain with the Hyundai Inster EV, scheduled to launch in India in 2026. The Inster EV is available globally with two NMC battery pack options – 42kWh and 49kWh – offering ranges of approximately 300 km and 355 km, respectively.
Upon its market debut, the Kia Syros EV will compete with models like the MG ZS EV and Tata Punch EV. It is anticipated to be positioned as a cost-effective electric car in India, with prices potentially ranging from approximately ₹14 lakh for the base variant to ₹20 lakh for the top-end trim. Currently, the Kia Carens Clavis EV is Kia’s most affordable electric SUV in India, with prices between ₹17.99 lakh and ₹24.49 lakh (ex-showroom).
