The Hindi remake of Tarun Majumdar’s ‘Balika Badhu’, originally a Bengali film, achieved success, featuring Rajni Sharma in the lead. Although Sharma subsequently had minor roles, the film was popular. Sachin, who played the husband, also garnered recognition. Asrani and Kajri, portraying curious relatives, were highly regarded. The film accurately depicted Bengali culture and gave Amit Kumar his initial big break as a singer. Under the guidance of R.D. Burman, Amit Kumar’s “Bade Achche Lagte Hain” became a chart-topping hit.
Amit Kumar’s rendition of Bade Achche Lagte Hain is not just a celebration of nature; it is a tribute to the creative brilliance that transformed an R.D. composition into a beloved classic.
Amit Kumar recalls that R.D. Burman contacted his father, asking him to send Amit to a recording. Initially, his father was confused. Burman explained he needed a young voice for a Shakti Samanta film. His father was happy. Kumar sang “Bade Achche Lagte Hain”, which gained recognition over three years, eventually becoming a household name. The song established Kumar’s identity beyond his father, Kishore Kumar. Kumar credits R.D. Burman for his unique style. He says that Burman told him to not copy his father and sing in his own voice.
