The film ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal,’ directed by Imtiaz Ali, is a long, unwieldy, and ultimately unfulfilling romantic drama. This mirrors the issues seen in his previous film, ‘Tamasha.’ The concept, which could have been engaging – envisioning a story where Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone played a difficult tour guide and a lively Gujarati woman – falls short. Shah Rukh Khan, as Harry, delivers a performance marked by arrogance, reminiscent of his role in ‘Fan.’ Anushka Sharma, maintains composure in contrast to Khan’s theatrics. The storyline becomes hard to believe. Ali’s filmography often explores gender dynamics in relationships, with the woman being aggressive and the man displaying traits of self-loathing or misogyny, stemming from a broken heart or an obsession with sex. The film’s use of locations is ultimately ineffective. The dialogues between the lead characters feel forced, and the songs are not well-integrated. ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’ ultimately disappoints both fans of Shah Rukh Khan and Imtiaz Ali.
