
The Japanese anime film, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – To the Hashira Training, released on September 12, has become a monumental success at the Indian box office. It has generated an impressive Rs 47.70 crore net in just five days, setting a new record as the highest-grossing non-Hollywood foreign film in India. The film’s opening day brought in Rs 12.85 crore, with collections increasing to Rs 13.1 crore on Saturday and reaching Rs 13.85 crore on Sunday. While Monday saw a decline to Rs 3.5 crore, the overall performance is exceptional. The Hindi version of the film has earned Rs 9.5 crore, while the English version has collected Rs 8.65 crore in the first five days. Preliminary estimates suggest that the film earned approximately Rs 4.00 crore net in India on its fifth day, across all languages. In a short span, the film has surpassed the lifetime earnings of previous anime hits like Jujutsu Kaisen 0 and Suzume in India. Worldwide, it has become the highest-grossing Japanese film in local currency, accumulating over 69 billion yen and surpassing the previous record set by Demon Slayer: Mugen Train (54.5 billion yen). The Indian version of the film holds a U/A 13+ certificate, indicating suitability for those aged 13 and older. The narrative, which follows the Hashira Training Arc, showcases Tanjiro’s training with various Hashiras. The story also addresses the fate of Kagaya Ubuyashiki, who is killed by Muzan, setting the plot for the Infinity Castle arc.
