The South Indian film scene is currently abuzz with three movies dominating the box office. Among these, the recently released ‘Miray,’ starring Teja Sajja, is garnering international attention and impressive revenue. Before its premiere, two other films had already made significant strides with their earnings. Kalyani Priyadarshan’s ‘Lokah’ is seeing remarkable success, while ‘Dil Madrasi’ is managing to achieve a moderate collection. Let’s delve into the earnings of both films and examine their performance.
‘Lokah Chapter 1’ has earned ₹126.95 crore in India within 21 days. The movie’s gross collection reached ₹148.55 crore. Its performance in foreign markets has been exceptionally strong, becoming one of the year’s biggest hits. Reports reveal that it earned ₹111.45 crore in overseas markets, leading to a global collection of ₹260 crore. On its 22nd day of release, the film’s collection was ₹1.85 crore.
This signifies the lowest single-day collection for the film to date. Consequently, the film has amassed a total of ₹261.85 crore in 22 days, as of the time of this report. With an estimated budget of ₹30 crore, the movie has already recovered approximately nine times its budget. It remains to be seen how the film’s earnings will evolve.
In contrast, ‘Dil Madrasi’ is reported to have a significant budget. Reports suggest that this movie was made with a budget ranging from ₹180-200 crore. Regrettably, the film is not meeting the anticipated standards. Its earnings in India haven’t been outstanding, and it has also faced limited support in foreign markets. Reports indicate that the film has collected ₹60.20 crore in India so far. Sivakarthikeyan’s film required two weeks to reach this figure. In overseas markets, the film managed to collect ₹24.80 crore in two weeks. The film’s worldwide collection has reached ₹95 crore. However, when considering the total earnings, the film has only recouped about half of its budget. This is a concerning outcome.
Based on the data, ‘Lokah’ is undoubtedly thriving, while Sivakarthikeyan’s ‘Dil Madrasi’ is struggling. For ‘Dil Madrasi,’ any discussion of profitability would be premature. The film is not even recouping its substantial budget. Furthermore, the influx of new movies into cinemas could potentially impact the collections of both films.
