The drama ‘Homebound’, starring Ishaan Khatter, Janhvi Kapoor, and Vishal Jethwa, has been released in India. Directed by Neeraj Ghaywan and produced under the Dharma Productions banner, the film has received international acclaim, including recognition at Cannes 2025 and the Toronto International Film Festival. Given the success of Pawan Kalyan’s ‘OG’, the focus is on how ‘Homebound’ will fare at the box office.
Industry insiders anticipate a modest opening in India, with a predicted collection of approximately Rs 0.75 crore to 1.25 crore on its first day. The film’s promotional campaign has been relatively limited, which could mean a smaller initial impact compared to more prominent commercial releases. Despite the international recognition and favorable reviews, ‘Homebound’s’ launch could be overshadowed by ‘OG’s’ dominance. ‘OG’ opened strongly, earning approximately Rs 21 crore in early previews, followed by Rs 63.75 crore on day one and Rs 19.24 crore on day two, reaching a total of around Rs 103.99 crore in its first three days.
While ‘Homebound’ might not have a huge opening, its storyline and the praise it has received internationally could help it perform well in the long term.
The film tells the story of two childhood friends from a small North Indian village who aspire to become police officers, seeking respect and dignity. Their quest is marked by difficulties that put their friendship and choices to the test. Ghaywan describes it as a touching story about friendship, survival, and the inner strength of those who are often overlooked. The film was met with a standing ovation lasting nine minutes at the Cannes Film Festival 2025.
