The film ‘Marigold,’ directed by Willard Carroll, features Ali Larter as the lead character, a woman who is rude and unrefined. Her arrival in India is marked by several instances of bad behavior. She is loud and impolite on her phone during a flight, she yells at a taxi driver, and she is disrespectful to the production controller.
The reason for Marigold’s behavior is eventually disclosed. She tells the choreographer about her dissatisfaction with her career, which consists mainly of roles in sequels that lack substance. This is followed by scenes of romance between the choreographer and the actress, set in Goa and Rajasthan.
The scenes between the choreographer and the actress are appealing, mainly due to Salman Khan’s innate charisma. The story shifts to the deserts of Rajasthan, where the plot thickens as Prem wants to marry Marigold, but has other obligations.
The film includes some poorly executed dance numbers. However, ‘Marigold’ has some redeeming qualities, with some clever dialogue and Salman Khan’s performance. The movie critiques both Bollywood and Hollywood and is unlikely to have a sequel.
