Before Shah Rukh Khan was cast, Salman Khan was the first choice for the lead role. There are various explanations why Salman Khan didn’t do the film. One theory suggests that Salman Khan and producer Aditya Chopra couldn’t agree on financial terms. They didn’t work together until Ek Tha Tiger. Another theory is that Salman Khan requested script changes that Shimit Amin didn’t agree with. Shah Rukh Khan eventually accepted the role, and the film went on to be very successful. Shah Rukh Khan had played hockey and retained his passion for the game. Chak De India had a slow start, but it later became the second biggest hit of 2007.
