Diljit Dosanjh is embroiled in a censorship battle over his film ‘Punjab 95’. The film, which portrays the events of the 1990s in Punjab and the life of Sikh activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, is facing significant resistance from the CBFC. The board has demanded a substantial number of cuts and a title change. The director, Honey Trehan, and Dosanjh are united in their opposition to these changes, viewing the film as a critical examination of human rights violations during a difficult period in the state’s history. The actor has been previously quoted as prioritizing his voice as an entertainer to discuss neglected issues. ‘Punjab 95’ is considered by those involved to be one of the most important films of their careers. The team has indicated that they will not release the film if the cuts are enforced. An international release, previously announced, was later cancelled.
