Nagpur is grappling with the shocking news of the alleged murder of actor Priyanshu Chhetri, famed for his role in the Amitabh Bachchan-starrer ‘Jhund.’ Chhetri, also recognized as Babu Ravi Singh Chhetri, was reportedly killed on Wednesday following a volatile dispute with his friend, Dhruv Lal Bahadur Sahu. Sahu has been taken into custody by the police in connection with the crime. The tragic event is said to have unfolded early Wednesday morning after a night of heavy drinking between the two individuals. It is understood that Chhetri and Sahu often shared drinks. Their meeting on Tuesday night took place at a disused property in the Jaripatka locality. During their time together, an argument reportedly broke out, during which Chhetri allegedly issued threats to Sahu before reportedly falling asleep. In the wake of this, Sahu is suspected of using wires to incapacitate Chhetri before attacking him with a bladed instrument. Responding to the emergency, the Jaripatka police station initiated an immediate investigation. The Crime Detection Branch swiftly tracked down and arrested the accused, Sahu, within half a day. Police disclosures indicate that Sahu has a history of criminal activity. Furthermore, Chhetri himself was not without a record, having been apprehended in 2022 for stealing valuables amounting to ₹5 lakh. A recent financial dispute between the two men had also created tension, although their friends had previously diffused altercations between them. ‘Jhund,’ directed by Nagraj Manjule, chronicles the inspirational journey of Vijay Barse, who used football to uplift slum children in Nagpur. Chhetri, who played a footballer named Babu Chhetri, was one of the young local talents discovered for the film. His upbringing in a low-income family in Nagpur and his subsequent struggles with substance abuse leading to petty crime paint a complex picture of his life.
