Nagpur is grappling with the shocking news of the alleged murder of actor Priyanshu Chhetri, famously known as Babu Ravi Singh Chhetri, for his role in the 2022 film ‘Jhund’. The young actor was reportedly killed by his friend, Dhruv Lal Bahadur Sahu, during a drunken argument that took a fatal turn early Wednesday, October 8. Sahu has since been taken into custody by the Jaripatka police.
According to police reports and media outlets, Chhetri and Sahu frequently shared drinks. The fatal incident occurred after they met at an abandoned location in Jaripatka on Tuesday night for their usual drinking session. An altercation ensued, and Chhetri allegedly issued threats to Sahu. After Chhetri fell asleep, Sahu is accused of resorting to extreme violence, restraining him with wires and using a sharp weapon to commit the murder.
Authorities were quick to respond, with the Jaripatka police station mobilizing a team to the scene. The Crime Detection Branch successfully tracked down and arrested the suspect, Dhruv Lal Bahadur Sahu, in a swift operation lasting less than six hours. It has been disclosed that Sahu possesses a criminal history. Chhetri also had past run-ins with the law, including a 2022 arrest for theft. Recent financial disputes between the victim and the accused had reportedly escalated tensions, though their friends had previously mediated.
Priyanshu Chhetri was part of the ensemble cast in ‘Jhund’, a film inspired by the social work of Vijay Barse in empowering underprivileged children through football. Chhetri, who played a footballer named Babu Chhetri, came from a humble Nagpur family and had a background marked by challenges, including drug addiction and petty crimes, before finding a platform in cinema.
