Nagpur is reeling from the shocking news of the alleged murder of actor Priyanshu Chhetri, fondly remembered for his role in the acclaimed Bollywood film ‘Jhund.’ Chhetri, who portrayed Babu Chhetri in the 2022 drama starring Amitabh Bachchan, was reportedly killed on Wednesday following a drunken confrontation. The film ‘Jhund’ celebrated the spirit of underprivileged youth finding purpose through sports.
The prime suspect in the case is identified as Dhruv Lal Bahadur Sahu, who has since been taken into custody. Police investigations indicate that Chhetri and Sahu were friends who frequently drank together. The fatal incident is said to have occurred after a drinking session at an abandoned property in the Jaripatka area on Tuesday night. It is alleged that during the course of an argument, Chhetri made threats towards Sahu.
After Chhetri reportedly fell asleep, Sahu is suspected of attacking him. The Jaripatka police station responded promptly to the distress call, and the Crime Detection Branch managed to arrest Sahu within six hours of the crime. Sahu reportedly has a history of criminal offenses. Adding to the complexity, it has been revealed that Chhetri also had prior run-ins with the law, including an arrest in 2022 for allegedly stealing valuables.
Authorities are exploring a potential monetary dispute between Chhetri and Sahu as a motive for the crime. While friends had previously mediated their disagreements, this latest clash proved to be fatal. Chhetri’s involvement in ‘Jhund,’ a film that provided a platform for many local talents from challenging backgrounds, makes his untimely death particularly poignant. His journey from a humble beginning in Nagpur to the silver screen was tragically cut short.
