The TV9 Festival of India, a five-day extravaganza, has begun in Delhi. The event features several singers, with Shaan as a special attraction, performing at the Lifestyle Expo and during the Durga Puja celebrations on October 1. His talent has made him a favorite, and his name is associated with many popular songs. This article aims to explore the roots of his musical career, particularly the beginning of his journey in Bollywood.
Born Shantanu Mukherjee on September 30, 1972, in Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh, Shaan has lent his voice to songs in Hindi, Bengali, Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, and Urdu. He has a vast repertoire, having recorded thousands of songs for films and albums. This article focuses on the specific details of his debut.
Shaan’s foray into music began at 12, when he started singing jingles. An opportunity came when Vidhu Vinod Chopra, while working on the movie ‘Parinda,’ was searching for a voice similar to Shaan’s. The search ended with an advertisement where Shaan’s talent was discovered. In ‘Parinda,’ released in 1989, Shaan contributed to the song ‘Kitni Hai Pyari Pyari Dosti Humari,’ alongside established singers like Suresh Wadkar, Shailendra Singh, and Sagarika.
While the song may not have achieved massive success, it served as a significant stepping stone for Shaan at the age of 15, the year the song was recorded (1988). Shaan’s real breakthrough arrived in 1999 with the song ‘Musu Musu Hasi Dil Malai Lai’ from the film ‘Pyar Mein Kabhi Kabhi’. His solo album ‘Tanha Dil’, released in 2000, was a major success, cementing his position as a successful playback singer.
Shaan’s list of hit songs includes ‘Chand Sifarish’, ‘Jab Se Tere Naina’, ‘Hey Shona’, ‘Mai Dil Goz Hummm’, ‘Where’s The Party Tonight’, ‘Char Kadam’, ‘Kuch Toh Hua Hai’, ‘Tune Mujhe Pehchana Nahi’, ‘Yeh Ladki Kyun’, ‘Behti Hawa Sa Tha Woh’, ‘Koi Nahi Hai Kamre Mein’, ‘Koi Kahe Kehta Rahe Kitna Bhi Humko Deewana’, ‘It’s Time To Disco’ and ‘Partner Title Track’.
