Filmmaker Karan Johar has added his voice to the growing chorus condemning the intrusive tactics of paparazzi, particularly concerning the health of veteran actor Dharmendra. After the iconic star was discharged from the hospital on November 12, 2025, Johar passionately appealed for privacy and empathy from the media. He emphasized that such aggressive coverage constitutes a profound lack of respect for a celebrated figure and his family.
In a strong message posted on social media, Johar expressed his dismay: “PLEASE leave a family alone!!!! They are already emotionally combatting so much… It’s heartbreaking to see a paparazzi and media circus for a living legend who has contributed so massively to our cinema… this is not coverage, it’s DISRESPECT!”
The call for sensitivity is particularly timely, as it follows an emotional confrontation between Dharmendra’s son, Sunny Deol, and members of the press. Deol was filmed questioning the paparazzi’s motives and their apparent disregard for the family’s distress.
The 89-year-old actor had been hospitalized for medical attention and brief ICU admission. The Deol family confirmed his return home to continue his recovery and reiterated their plea for the public and media to allow them space and avoid baseless speculation during this sensitive time.
