In a significant development, the Kerala High Court has relaxed bail conditions for popular Malayalam rapper Vedan, whose legal name is Hirandas, enabling him to undertake a professional concert tour overseas. Justice C. Pratheep Kumar’s bench overturned two key bail stipulations set by the lower Sessions Court: the prohibition on leaving Kerala and the mandatory Sunday appearances before the investigating officer.
This allows Vedan to proceed with his planned performances in Dubai, Qatar, France, and Germany, set to take place from November 23 to December 20. The court stipulated that Vedan must provide prior notification to the investigating officer before departing the country and remain available for any required reporting with advance notice. The prosecution supported this modification of bail terms.
The rapper faced charges stemming from a December 2022 complaint alleging sexual harassment. He had previously obtained pre-arrest bail but contested the stringent movement and reporting conditions. The High Court considered Vedan’s consistent adherence to bail stipulations over the past six weeks as a factor in its decision to modify the conditions, ensuring continued oversight while accommodating his career.
